Reed Canary Grass is similar to Canary Grass (Phalaris Aquatica), but is more suitable for use in exposed northern regions, as it is a much hardier plant and will tolerate a wide range of soil types. Not only will it make good nesting sites for pheasant and partridge, but also other wild birds of the countryside. The crop is purely for nesting and cover as there is no feed value to the plant at all. As with Phalaris Aquatica, the seed needs to be drilled in wide spaced rows or the crop will become too dense for the birds to penetrate. Annual management should be carried out to avoid the crop becoming too dense. The crop can be topped if it becomes too tall, with the debris being removed. - Seed Rate:- 5kgs per acre (drilled only)
- Sowing date:- April - June
- Duration of Crop:- 5 years
- Drill Depth:- 1.5cm
- Average Row Width:- 70 - 90cm
- Suggested Units Fertilizer per ha.:- N-55/P-28/K-28
